Naps & Belly Bombs

A few weekends ago, my boyfriend and I went to Chicago with a couple friends of ours. It was a much needed quick getaway, however, I had was struck by a few statements while there which prompted a few questions:
Why are people so ashamed of bodily functions? You could spend the night somewhere and first thing upon everyone waking up, someone will say, “you snore! Unbelievable!” I’m always like "okayyy...? *insert Waka Flocka meme* Guess what else? I also fart! And sometimes... *whispers*... other people hear it AND it stinks." There were things that I was beyond embarrassed by as a kid that now, as a 29 year old, simply cannot phase me. Other people passing gas, having to go poop, or burping. Free yourself! Please do not acquire an unnecessary stomachache to keep me or someone else from smelling 20 seconds of gas. Now, obviously this is within reason. I would not recommend breaking wind at your potential in-laws dining table or in your quarterly review meeting. When you’re at home however, or your best friend’s house sharing a bottle of wine; what am I holding my gas in for?
This may gross some out and my friends HATE me for it and hold no punches (literally and figuratively here) letting me know. Should you be out with me in a bar or other crowded place and my stomach tells me it’s time to drop a bomb...the instant I know I can trust the fart, it’s released. Now, it may upturn a few noses and you may even hear someone ask “what is that smell?” Here's where it gets good, it’s a bar! It could be anything! Maybe a been-wet-too-long bar towel, perhaps a sink overflowed in the kitchen, maybe a toilet is clogged? We can’t be sure, so I rely on that (sometimes...if I’m feeling a little bad for letting it go) but mostly I shrug and say, “whatever it is it’ll pass, smell is your weakest sense.” And like that it’s over!
My snoring I find a tad bit embarrassing if I'm around someone sleeping for the first time, but for the most part I let my body function the way it needs to so I stay healthy. That being said, if your snoring rudely and loudly wakes others up, or keeps others awake, try nasal strips or check with your PCP to make sure there isn’t a greater issue at hand. Other than that, continue to sleep well my friend!
